Hi all

Slightly off L&D topic but relevant to those members who pursue the many international opportunities that get posted on the site.

I have my first holiday booked for August; 5 days in Austria and got the air fare confirmation through. Was interested to see how much was 'air fare' going to the airline; how much was 'handling charges' going to the airport; and how much was 'taxes' going to the government.

2 x Adult Economy Saver outbound - GBP 24.00
2 x Adult Economy Saver return - GBP - 24.00
Total flights - GBP - 48.00

Flight taxes and fees
Fuel and Insurance Surcharge - GBP - 28.00
Air Passenger Duty (APD) GB United Kingdom - GBP - 26.00
Passenger Service Charge - GB United Kingdom - GBP - 44.38
Passenger Service Charge AT Austria - GBP - 30.00
Air Transport Levy - GBP - 13.40
Passenger Security Charge AT Austria - GBP - 11.60
Total tax - GBP - 153.38

So from a total cost of just over 200; over 75% was in duty and charges. No wonder the airlines are up in arms about 'others' pricing them out of the market.

Hey ho.
